HOUSING BOOM: Builder bringing more homes to Cabarrus, Charlotte area

National homebuilder M/I Homes plans to construct new homes in 12 Charlotte-area communities this year. Many of these homes will be built near Cox Mill Elementary School and more than 100 will be in Harrisburg.

“We’ve seen demand continue to go up,” M/I Division Vice President Alan Beulah said. “We attribute the company’s performance in Charlotte to a combination of our desirable locations, record of customer satisfaction and number of buyers moving to our region. Many of our buyers are moving from other parts of the country or moving to larger homes for their growing families.

Autumn will bring the development of Edenton at Cox Mill, a new community made up of 103 home sites. Edenton is next to Cox Mill Elementary and close to Concord Mills.

Pre-sales for Allen Mills, adjacent to Cox Mill Elementary and across the street from Cox Mill High School, have already begun. The community is set to have 283 home sites and buyers can select from different plans, including ranch and two-story designs.

Beulah said a little over 50 families have already purchased homes in Allen Mills.

“It’s an extremely popular corridor from a traffic standpoint. The schools are excellent, that’s been a big driver,” Beulah said.

Back in 2013, M/I Homes began construction on Brookvue which is located at Poplar Tent Road and Huntersville-Concord Road. Beulah said the company had great success with the Brookvue community and hopes to replicate that with Allen Mills.

Homes here will be generously sized, designed for couples and families who want plenty of space for family life and entertaining. These full-brick homes will range from 3,384 square feet to more than 5,825 square feet, with up to 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, depending upon the buyer’s needs. Large master bedroom suites and spacious kitchens are hallmarks of each home plan, and buyers can choose from the 2-car side entry garage or the 3-car option. Prices begin in the $420s.

Other highlights include the kitchen opening to family room with coffered ceiling, loft area as a hang-out space for kids or teens, and special tech center room with cubbies, workspace and chalkboard wall. The model also features an outdoor living space with fireplace, brick grill area, and covered porch to showcase this optional amenity.

Residents at Blume will enjoy a pool, cabana, dual tennis court, volleyball court, and playground for small children. Half the community is permanently preserved common space, and Reedy Creek Park is in walking distance of every home. Schools serving the community include Patriots Elementary, Hickory Ridge Middle and Hickory Ridge High.

Growth in Cabarrus County

“Cabarrus has low taxes and good schools, that’s what families look for,” he said. “It’s certainly a focus for us. We’ve got a number of other locations we are looking at in Cabarrus that aren’t finalized. It is one of the growing submarkets in the greater Charlotte area and a number of builders are vying for it.”

Other homes being built in the Charlotte area this year will include:

Walnut Creek in Lancaster, S.C. – Buyers can choose from 164 M/I home sites, with striking streetscapes of ranch-style homes planned from M/I’s Carolina and Park Collections. Homes include lawn maintenance. The Marvin II model home plan can be built with up to five bedrooms and three baths.

Covington in Indian Land, S.C. – Scheduled to open late spring, Covington will offer 190 home sites and designs from M/I’s Traditional Collection. The Torrance model features a two-story foyer, great room with vaulted ceiling, stone fireplace, master suite on the main floor and three additional bedrooms upstairs.

Bretagne in Indian Land, S.C. – Opening in late spring close to Ballantyne, this community of 133 home sites will offer designs primarily from M/I’s Showcase Collections. These are large family homes with many options, including covered porches on main and secondary levels, outdoor living areas, full brick exteriors and three-car, side entry garages all available.

Harlows Crossing in Weddington, N.C. – This new community of 71 home sites from M/I’s Showcase Collection is coming to the intersection of Matthews Weddington and Hemby Roads in the summer. Harlows Crossing features a manor home collection in a country setting, yet it’s close to top attractions, including Cane Creek Park and a four-mile greenway.

Heritage in Stallings, N.C. – Come summer, about 100 new home sites will be ready for purchase in this up-and-coming area. The model home, The Marvin II, is an environmentally friendly design that provides plenty of space on the main floor with an optional upstairs space for a bedroom, home office, or work-out room.

Ramsey’s Glen in Huntersville, N.C. – There will be 85 home sites available in this community, featuring designs from M/I’s Cottage and Traditional Collections. Choose from two-story home designs and or homes with extensive main floor living space in the Cottage Collection. The family-oriented neighborhood is conveniently located, with nearby access to I-77, restaurants and shopping. Opening late fall.
